who we are:
Born from a road trip. Built for the wild-hearted.
We’re Kate & Kevin—travel junkies, nature lovers, and dreamers (with dirt under our nails). We’ve hiked rainforests, camped under volcanoes, said “I do” in a redwood grove, and dreamed up this retreat while road-tripping a campervan down California’s iconic Highway 1.
Somewhere between San Francisco and LA, we realized what we truly wanted: a place that combined the freedom of the open road with the comfort of a curated stay—where every traveler feels welcome.
When we returned home to Kentucky, we rolled up our sleeves and got to work. Gravel roads, hand-built campsites, riverside mornings, and star-soaked nights—Base Camp @ The Red was born one shovel, one sunset, one bold idea at a time. Carved into the heart of the Appalachian Mountains with love, grit, and a whole lot of coffee.

What Makes Base Camp Special?
Curated for calm.
We created Base Camp as a peaceful retreat—designed for adults seeking deep rest, reconnection, and a little adventure. Whether you're sipping coffee at sunrise or watching the stars in total stillness, this space was made to recharge your soul.
Luxury meets landscape.
It’s glamping done right. Real beds, cozy linens, ambient lighting, and warm wood tones—all nestled into the natural beauty of the forest. Think boutique hotel meets national park.
Adventure-ready location.
Minutes from Red River Gorge, Hollerwood Offroad Park, and endless hiking, paddling, and climbing opportunities. This is your launchpad for the kind of memories that don’t need Wi-Fi.
Tranquil by design.
To maintain a restful atmosphere, Base Camp is an adults-only space. That means fewer distractions, slower mornings, and more time to connect—with nature, your partner, or just yourself.
Built with love and purpose.
Every tent, road, and fire ring was placed with care. We’re not a resort—we’re a dream, handcrafted by two people who love this land and want to share it with fellow travelers who crave the same kind of magic.
